Stay back! The shadows… they’re telling me to push it! They want the fire!

SETTING: Light’s Safe House. Light is watching the live news coverage on his laptop. The camera zooms in on the man’s face. A news banner reads: "HOSTAGE CRISIS IN OSAKA - SUSPECT CLAIMS 'GHOSTS' ARE COMMANDING HIM."
LIGHT
Another one.
A weak mind fractured by the Shinigami influence.
PANEL 3
Ryuk is floating behind Light, looking at the screen with mild interest.
RYUK
Ooh, that guy looks like he’s seeing a Grade-A ugly Shinigami right now.
Probably Nu. He likes explosions.

Light picks up his pen. His eyes are cold, focused.
LIGHT
He is creating chaos. Chaos that lacks purpose.
If I eliminate him now, I save hundreds. I reinforce Kira’s position as the guardian of order.

Light writes the name shown on the news ticker: "Kenji Sato".
LIGHT (V.O.)
A heart attack. Instant.
The world will see that even against the 'ghosts,' Kira is the ultimate authority.

SETTING: Subway Station. Kenji Sato suddenly freezes. His hand clutches his chest. The detonator slips from his sweaty grip.

PANEL 2
Light watches the screen, expecting the collapse. He checks his watch.
LIGHT
40 seconds. Right on schedule. Die.
PANEL 3
SETTING: Subway Station. Just as Kenji is about to hit the floor, the air around him distorts. It looks like heat haze, violently rippling.
A skeletal, shadowy claw (invisible to the cameras and crowd, but implied by the distortion) reaches out from the air.
PANEL 4
SFX: VWOOP! (A sound like a vacuum sealing)
Kenji Sato doesn't fall. He doesn't explode.
He simply vanishes.
His clothes fall to the floor in a heap, empty. The explosive vest clatters to the tiles.
PANEL 5
The crowd stops screaming. Silence falls. The police stare at the pile of clothes.
POLICE OFFICER
He… he’s gone! Just like the others!

SETTING: Light’s Safe House. Light slams his fist onto the desk, his composure cracking.
SFX: BAM!
LIGHT
What?!
I wrote his name! He should be dead!
PANEL 2
Ryuk bursts out laughing, rolling in the air.
RYUK
Hyuk hyuk hyuk! Too slow, Light! Too slow!
Looks like Nu got bored of waiting and just took him.

Light turns on Ryuk, furious.
LIGHT
Explain. The Death Note is absolute. If I write the name, they die.
PANEL 4
Ryuk wipes a tear from his eye.
RYUK
Sure, they die. But the other Shinigami... they aren't using Death Notes to kill these people, Light. They’re dragging them straight into the Void.
It’s like… grabbing a snack before it hits the expiry date.
If they grab the soul before your heart attack kicks in… well, you lose.

Light stares at the empty clothes on the screen. His mind races.
LIGHT (INNER MONOLOGUE)
I am competing.
I am not the sole arbiter of death anymore. I am in a race against erratic monsters.
If people see that Kira cannot stop the disappearances… my godhood is flawed.

Near is building a house of cards. It is incredibly tall and complex.
LIQUORICE
Target 'Kenji Sato' vanished at 14:02.
However, biometric readings from the camera feed suggest he was experiencing cardiac distress three seconds prior to vanishing.

Near places a card with extreme delicacy.
NEAR
Cardiac distress.
So, Kira tried to kill him. And the Anomaly took him first.

Near sits back, admiring the card tower.
NEAR
This confirms it. Kira and the Anomalies are not allies.
They are competitors.
Kira represents Order (Death). The Anomalies represent Chaos (Void).

Liquorice turns to Near.
LIQUORICE
Do we broadcast this? Tell the world that Kira is fighting the ghosts?
PANEL 5
Near shakes his head slowly. He knocks down one specific card at the base, causing one side of the tower to collapse while the other stands.
NEAR
No. If we tell the world they are fighting, the world will choose a side. They will choose Kira.
We need them to believe they are both monsters.
We remain silent. For now.

SETTING: The darkly lit facility where L is kept.
WATCHER (The hooded figure) stands before a console. The graph of L’s brain activity is steady, but higher than yesterday.
WATCHER
The Osaka incident caused a reaction in the temporal lobe.
He is listening. Even in his sleep.
PANEL 2
SETTING: The Mental Care Facility. Misa’s room.
It is night. Misa Amane sits on the edge of her bed. The room is sterile, soft walls.
She is rocking back and forth.
MISA
(Humming a broken tune)
He writes… scratch, scratch, scratch…
He is angry… scratch, scratch…
PANEL 3
Misa stops humming. Her eyes snap open. The pupils are dilated, almost vibrating.
She looks at the wall, but seems to see through it.
MISA
He lost one.
He hates losing.
PANEL 4
Misa stands up. She walks to the locked electronic door. She places her hand on the keypad.
MISA
I have to… comfort him.
PANEL 5
SFX: ZZZZT! (Electric static sound)
Green sparks fly from the keypad. The light turns from Red to Green instantly. The door slides open with a hiss.

SETTING: The hallway of the facility. Two ORDERLIES are patrolling.
Misa steps out of her room, barefoot.
ORDERLY 1
Hey! Patient in Sector 4 is out!
Secure her!
PANEL 2
The Orderlies rush towards Misa. Misa doesn't run. She walks calmly towards them, staring straight ahead.
As they reach for her, the air around Misa shimmers with that same green static from the Shinigami King’s eraser.
PANEL 3
POV: From the Orderly’s eyes.
Misa’s form becomes blurry, like a corrupted video file. Her face distorts into static.
The Orderly blinks, confused, his hand grasping at empty air where her shoulder should be.
ORDERLY 1
What the—? I can’t… focus…
PANEL 4
Misa walks right past them. The Orderlies turn around, looking dizzy and nauseous.
ORDERLY 2
Where did she go? She was just… right there.
My head… it hurts…
PANEL 5
Misa reaches the end of the hall. She looks at a security camera.
On the monitor in the security room, the screen showing Misa is just pure white noise (snow).
MISA
The world… is broken.
And so am I.
That’s why I can slip through the cracks.

Light is pacing. He has filled a page of the Death Note with names of criminals reported on the news.
LIGHT
Ryuk. The range of the rogue Shinigami.
Is it global? Or are they localized?

Ryuk is juggling apples.
RYUK
Pretty global. But there aren't that many of them down here. Maybe a dozen?
They tend to stick to places with high negative energy. War zones. Riots. Or just crowded cities like Tokyo.

Light stops pacing. He smiles, a plan forming.
LIGHT
A dozen. Manageable.
If I cannot beat them in speed... I will beat them in volume.

Light sits at his computer. He pulls up a list of high-profile criminals in peaceful nations. Switzerland. Iceland. New Zealand.
LIGHT
The Shinigami go where the chaos is.
So, I will strike where they are not.
I will establish Kira’s absolute justice in the quiet corners of the world first.

LIQUORICE
No, sir. escaped.
But the reports are… irrational. Staff claim she walked through locked doors. Cameras recorded nothing but static.
They can’t find her trace. It’s like she evaporated.

Near picks up a "Queen" card from a chess-themed deck. He looks at it closely.
NEAR
The Second Kira. Years of catatonic silence.
And she wakes up now.
Just as Light Yagami returns.

I can feel your anger. Your ambition.
It’s like a heartbeat in the sky.

A group of thugs in an alleyway notice Misa.
THUG 1

The thugs approach her. Misa doesn't flinch. She turns to look at them.
Misa's Eyes: For a split second, they flash red. Not the Shinigami eyes of before, but something broken, glitching red and green.

I don't have the eyes anymore. Not the real ones.
But I see... strings.
Connecting everything.

SETTING: Light’s Safe House.
Light is exhausted. He has written hundreds of names.
RYUK
Taking a break? You’ve been going for three hours straight.

Light massages his temples.
LIGHT

It’s him. I know it in my gut.
But Aizawa won’t listen. He thinks it’s the ghosts.

Ide’s eyes widen. He opens the email.

Two Shinigami are conversing. One is Malthus (from Ep 1). The other is NU, a bulky, rock-like Shinigami.

I tried to take a warlord in Sudan. Heart attack got him first.

Malthus grins, his sharp teeth glistening.
MALTHUS
He is fast.
But he is bound by rules. Names. Faces.
We are free.

Malthus produces a Death Note. But this one looks... different. It is tattered, leaking green smoke.
